Bacon County’s tennis teams split with Appling County and swept Region 2-AA foe Metter in action last week.

The Lady Red Raiders (1-3 overall, 1-0 region), after losing 4-1 to the Lady Pirates in Tuesday’s first match of the week, posted a 5-0 win over the Lady Tigers last Thursday.

BCHS had opened the season a week earlier with a pair of 5-0 losses to Class AAA Pierce County and Class AAAAA Ware County. The match with PCHS was the home opener while the match with the Lady Gators was on the road.

The Red Raiders (2-2, 1-0) picked up their initial win of the season with a 3-2 win in Baxley against the Pirates and followed that up with a 4-1 victory over the Tigers at home.

BCHS travels to Pierce County on Wednesday and closes out the week hosting region foe Toombs County on Friday.

Due to the weather condition of a dropping temperature, Pierce County and Bacon County agreed to play a Pro 10 in the season opener.

The Lady Red Raiders managed just win just 12 games in their matchup with last year’s Class AAA Final Four team.

Sarah Gonzalez fell 10-0 to Liza Hurst at No. 1 singles. Ezy Diaz lost 10-4 to Mary Benfield at No. 2, and Yajahira Torres dropped a 10-6 decision to Meagan Wright at No. 3.

Bacon County’s No. 1 doubles tandem of Allie Jo Tanner and Graycen Tanner were blanked 10-0 by AnnaMarie Raulerson and Deanna Jones. The No. 2 team of Ashton Kight and Ashley Crosby fell 10-2 to Emily Cox and Regan Sikes.

The Red Raiders gave Pierce County’s Elite 8 squad a tough match.

Alex Medders lost 10-3 to Blake Aldridge at No. 1 singles, Solomon Tillman dropped a 10-2 decision to Gautham Maramreddy at No. 2, and Gramm Peacock fell 10-8 in a slugfest with Rhett Veal at No. 3.

Bacon’s No. 1 doubles team of Tyler Hill and Josh Thrift were beaten 10-2 by Colby Thornton and Tyler Scurry. The No. 2 doubles tandem of Hunter Hill and Caleb Stevens trailed 6-2 to Jeremiah Davis and Kenny Ciarletta when the match was called.
