Bacon County ended a six-game Region 2-AA losing streak beating Bryan County in the opening game of a three-game slate last week.

The Red Raiders (5-12 overall, 3-9 region) completed the season sweep of the visiting Redskins last Tuesday winning 5-4 on Kyle Wilcox’s one-out bases loaded single in the bottom of the seventh. BCHS beat Bryan County 2-1 in Pembroke back on March 1, scoring the winning run in the top of the seventh.

Bacon County spotted visiting Irwin County an 8-0 advantage through three innings on Thursday before rallying for a 9-8 non-region win. The victory avenged a 3-1 loss in Ocilla to the Indians on February 24.

The pair of one-run wins improved Bacon’s record to 4-1 in those games.

The week came to a close on Friday when the Red Raiders were doubled up by host Atkinson County, 10-5, to finish off the season sweep. The Rebels won the first matchup 16-0 on March 4.

BCHS has another three-game slate this week. The Red Raiders, who hosted Treutlen on Monday, travel to Darien to face McIntosh County today (Tuesday) and close out the week hosting Long County at 6 p.m.

BCHS 5, Bryan County 4

The Red Raiders scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to overcome a 4-3 deficit and get the one-run victory.

After back-to-back walks to Dawson Dyal and Kline Nipper (1-for-3) to start the home half of the seventh, Jacob Carver (3-for-4) stroked a run-scoring double to right to tie the score at 4-apiece.

Will Newberry was walked intentionally to load the bases. One out later, Wilcox (1-for-3) lined a single to right scoring Nipper with the game-winning run.

Bacon jumped out to a 3-0 lead scoring twice in the first and once in the third. Carver poked a run-scoring single in the opening frame. Carver’s courtesy runner Dalton Youmans would eventually score on a passed ball for a 2-0 advantage.

A two-out double by Carver was followed by a two-base error in the third extending the lead to 3-0.

Carver (5.1 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 7 K, 2 BB, 1 HBP) was touched for four runs from the fourth thru the sixth as Bryan County took a 4-3 lead.

BCHS 9, Irwin County 8

Anescio Washington’s bases loaded, one-out single in the bottom of the sixth completed the Red Raiders’ dramatic rally for the win.

Irwin scored twice in the first and added six more runs in the second for an 8-0 lead to chase Aubrey Carter (1.2 IP, H, 5 R, 2 ER, 2 K, 3 BB). Nipper came on in relief and threw five innings of scoreless relief after surrendering three runs in the second.

BCHS scored four times in the fourth to cut the deficit in half and one in the fifth to pull to within 8-5.

Nipper (1-for-4) and Carver (3-for-4) had RBI hits before Washington’s (1-for-4) game-winner in the sixth.

Atkinson Co. 10, BCHS 5

The Rebels scored eight runs in their first at bat en route to the win on Friday over BCHS.

Atco batted around and knocked Youmans (.2 IP, 2 H, 7 R, 1 ER, 0 K, 4 BB, 1 HBP) from the mound after the Red Raiders had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.

Dalton Spires (1-for-3) singled, moved up on a groundout, stole third and raced home on a throwing error by the catcher.

Down 8-1 in the third, Bacon County scored twice on a RBI single by Carter (3-for-4) and a two-base error. BCHS plated a run in the fifth on an error to get to within 8-4.

After the Rebels scored the next runs to extend the margin to 10-4, Bacon scored its last run in the seventh. Carver delivered a run-scoring single with two outs.
