Two have tossed their hats in the ring this year for the Alma city council district 5 seat.
Incumbent and insurance man John Hughes is being challenged by retired car salesman Larry Waters. The two will be on the general election ballot in November.
Also paying their qualifying fees last week, but facing no opposition are Alma City Councilwoman Rosie Williams, and Councilman Jerry Sweat.
Also on the Bacon County ballot on Tuesday, November 7 will be a SPLOST referendum to continue the current penny sales tax for another six years, and an E-SPLOST to help the schools pay off existing bonds for building the new high school, and possibly construct new buildings.
The deadline to register to vote in the general election is Tuesday, October 10. Contact the Bacon County elections office at 632-5551 for more information.
Bacon Countians will be voting on brand new, state of the art voting machines in November. Bacon County Election Supervisor travelled to Kennesaw last week to pick up the new machines.
Also, for the first time since it was approved by the elections board, all Bacon County voters will be voting at the Douglas precinct in downtown Alma, located in the old city hall building.
Advance voting for this election will begin on Monday, October 16.
