Alma PD makes traffic stop, confiscates 16 bags of dope

Traffic stops in Alma continue to turn up drugs with the latest pull-over netting 16 bags of marijuana and a gun.

Last Thursday, the Alma PD stopped a vehicle for speeding on Highway 32 East and Jarvis Laron Belcher, 20, Waycross, was arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and theft by receiving stolen property.

Officers seized 16 bags of marijuana, and a handgun which had been reported stolen in Ware County.

Earlier in the week, an elderly resident of Alma fell victim to a robbery after Kelly Marlette Thomas, 27, Alma, reportedly entered the man’s home, robbed and beat the victim, and then used the victim’s debit/credit card to make several unauthorized purchases.

Thomas was arrested on Wednesday and charged with robbery, battery, and six counts of financial transaction card fraud.

Also on Wednesday, the Alma PD’s Crime Suppression Unit stopped a vehicle on W. 12th St for an equipment violation. Officers arrested Debra Lynn Hyers, 50, of Alma, for a taillight violation, driving with a suspended license, two counts of possession of scheduled controlled substances and a felony marijuana charge.
